Job Summary:
The Director of Safety is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive safety programs to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. This individual leads the organization’s efforts to create a culture of safety and risk mitigation while promoting employee health and well-being.
Onsite: Must be able to get into office 5x per week (day shift)
Compensation: $100-125k + bonus + full benefits
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute the organization’s safety vision, strategies, and goals.
- Collaborate with senior management to integrate safety initiatives into the company’s overall business strategy.
- Act as the organization’s primary safety advisor, providing expert guidance on workplace safety and regulatory compliance.
Program Development and Management
- Design, implement, and maintain safety policies, procedures, and training programs.
- Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and hazard analyses to identify and mitigate risks.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other applicable regulations.
Training and Development
- Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees, contractors, and management.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through ongoing communication and engagement initiatives.
- Provide coaching and support to supervisors and employees to ensure adherence to safety protocols.
Incident Investigation and Reporting
- Lead investigations into workplace incidents, accidents, and near-misses, identifying root causes and corrective actions.
- Oversee incident reporting and maintain accurate records to meet regulatory requirements.
- Track key safety performance metrics and provide regular reports to leadership.
Regulatory Compliance
- Monitor changes to safety laws and regulations, ensuring organizational compliance.
- Liaise with regulatory agencies during inspections, audits, or incident inquiries.
- Oversee the development and submission of required regulatory reports.
Team Management
- Lead and mentor the safety team, fostering professional growth and skill development.
- Allocate resources to meet safety program objectives and manage department budgets.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with safety goals.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in safety management, including leadership roles.
- Professional certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional), ASP (Associate Safety Professional), or equivalent preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other relevant regulations.
- Proven ability to lead safety initiatives in a multi-site or large-scale organization.
